While Grosseto itself has its merits, the province’s true gems lie beyond the city centre. Broadly speaking, the territory of Grosseto province corresponds with the Maremma, a region where traditions run deep, and whose stunning landscapes—both rolling hills and dramatic coastline—promise an unforgettable holiday. The Maremma coast stretches along several well-known tourist destinations: Marina di Grosseto, Castiglione della Pescaia, Punta Ala and Follonica.
Inland, don’t miss some of Tuscany’s finest destinations, starting with the Saturnia thermal springs, followed by the charming villages of Scansano, Roccalbegna, Castel del Piano and Cinignano.
The beautiful Argentario promontory deserves special attention, stretching between the Orbetello lagoon and the Tyrrhenian Sea. The two key resorts here are Porto Santo Stefano and Porto Ercole, both distinctly upmarket with impressive marinas lined with superyachts. Argentario’s defining feature is its spectacular hidden coves, often accessible only by sea or steep coastal paths. If those don’t appeal, unwind on the long sandy beaches of Giannella and Feniglia.
Ferries to the Giglio Island depart from Porto Santo Stefano, representing a genuine highlight of Grosseto province and the perfect seaside retreat. Don’t overlook the tiny Giannutri Island either, largely a protected nature reserve.
Finally, don’t forget two of Tuscany’s most beautiful villages: Pitigliano and Sorano, not far from each other but definitely on the region’s southern fringe, just minutes from the Lazio border.
