Lido di Camaiore is one of Tuscany’s most popular beach destinations – at least among the Tuscans themselves. The tourism here is predominantly local: countless Florentines, Sienese and Pisans own second homes here, which they use from June through September or during the spring bank holidays.
But don’t be put off if you’re coming from further afield: Lido di Camaiore is exceptionally well-equipped from a tourist perspective, with plenty of hotels and restaurants, no shortage of entertainment, and all the facilities you could need. You’re in the heart of the Versilia, the well-known coastal strip in Lucca province. Between Viareggio and Forte dei Marmi, there’s no shortage of ways to enjoy a pleasant holiday.
Make the most of the Lido di Camaiore beach, with its fine golden sand, the ultra-luxury beach clubs and more affordable options, and don’t forget to adopt the locals’ healthy habit of strolling up and down the seafront, or cycling along it.
Lido di Camaiore is indeed the perfect destination for relaxation, thanks above all to its favourable climate, never too hot in summer and pleasant even in winter. This is precisely why it’s not uncommon to see the Lido seafront crowded on sunny winter weekends or in early spring – as packed as it is in summer – particularly with Tuscans on day trips, who head to the Versilia coast for a bit of sea air and to relax in the mild sunshine.
The beach is the real star of Lido di Camaiore. Immaculately clean and meticulously maintained, it is fully equipped. Beach clubs line the shore continuously, one after another, from one end of the municipality to the other. Each provides all the basic services, including of course sunbed and parasol hire, a bar, changing cabins, hot and cold showers and a lifeguard service.
But the operators compete fiercely to offer the best services and attract the widest clientele. So you’ll find some with a swimming pool, others running zumba or pilates classes on the beach, some specialising in aperitifs, others providing enormous tents instead of standard parasols, and so on.
Choose the beach club that suits you, based of course on cost and your preferences. In high season, the average price for renting a parasol with sunbed and lounger comes to around €30 per day.
Lido di Camaiore also has two small patches of public beach: one at the southern end of the seafront, between the Abetone and Paradiso beach clubs, the other opposite Piazza Principe Umberto. Remember that spreading out your towel or putting up a parasol on the water’s edge in front of the beach clubs is prohibited.

Don’t expect culture, history or monuments here: Lido di Camaiore is about relaxing on the beach, strolling along the seafront and watching the sunset from the pier. There’s no historic centre, nor really a city centre in the traditional sense: life at the Lido revolves entirely around the beach and its immediate surroundings.
Viale Ermenegildo Pistelli is the Lido di Camaiore seafront. It has one lane for traffic, whilst on the seaward side there’s a cycle path and a wide pedestrian zone. For locals and regular visitors, walking along the promenade, which stretches for nearly 2 kilometres, is an absolute must.
On the landward side of the seafront are the hotels and elegant early 20th-century villas, while on the seaward side are the entrances to the beach clubs, plus numerous restaurants, bars and some shops.
During the fine season, a market of crafts, food and artisan goods is set up on alternate weeks, occupying the entire seafront stretch.
Built in recent years, the Lido di Camaiore pier has become the iconic symbol of the resort. Located roughly halfway along the seafront promenade, it extends for about 200 metres. At the far end there’s a bar-restaurant where you can enjoy an aperitif at sunset, and a wonderful panoramic terrace. A stroll back and forth along the Lido pier is truly unmissable!
At the northern end of Lido di Camaiore, where Viale Pistelli ends, an enormous observation wheel is set up during summer. Ride it by day to enjoy a spectacular view of the entire Versilia coast, from the pine groves to the south to the Ligurian hills to the north, but take a spin in the evening too to experience an unusual and marvellous sunset.
The main accommodation option in Lido di Camaiore is hotels. There are plenty of them, many located on the seafront (Viale Pistelli) or on the parallel inland road, Viale Cristoforo Colombo. The hotel offering consists almost exclusively of 3 and 4-star establishments, many of which have been recently refurbished. There are smaller, family-run hotels at 3 or 2-star level, and apartments managed by private owners, though almost all are handled by local agencies as they are second homes rented out when not in use. Bed and breakfasts, meanwhile, are virtually absent.
