The Piaggio Museum is located in Pontedera, in the heart of the Pisan hills, around 15 minutes from Pisa and 35 minutes from Florence. It’s easily accessible by exiting the Pisa-Florence motorway and makes for a pleasant stop whilst travelling between Pisa and Florence, or a worthwhile diversion during summer holidays on the Tuscan coast or as part of a cultural tour taking in historic museums and art cities. Even younger visitors will enjoy this experience. The Piaggio Museum was established to preserve and showcase an extraordinary historical legacy, with the aim of telling the story of the company and, through it, the development of Italian industry, economy and society, featuring its most famous and iconic products.

Extraordinary objects that, like an invisible thread, guide you through every aspect of mobility history. Three major collections are on display: the Vespa collection, the Gilera collection and the Piaggio collection. The museum also houses a historical archive, an exceptionally rich collection of approximately 4,000 folders containing carefully preserved documentation of the company’s life in all its aspects, including sketches, drawings and films from advertising campaigns spanning from the 1930s to today.

The Museum

The building that now houses the Piaggio Museum is the former Equipment Workshop, one of the oldest structures at the Pontedera factory, which was renovated in 2000 to accommodate the Museum, a centre for artistic and cultural development. Its permanent collection of historic vehicles attracts an ever-growing number of enthusiasts and visitors from around the world, whilst the Historical Archive, one of Italy’s most precious corporate archives, holds documentation relating to the company’s history, serving as an excellent tool for promoting both local and national heritage.

Through cultural activities promoted in collaboration with public administrations and the local association network, the Piaggio Foundation aims to strengthen the relationship between business, culture and territory through temporary exhibitions, meetings and cultural events of major interest.

The Piaggio Museum is therefore a place to visit, experience and interpret. It is the embodiment of a moving journey through the history of a great company and Italian culture, from the post-war era to the present day, one that cannot fail to captivate visitors.
