Tuscany is one of Italy’s richest regions for quality shopping opportunities: alongside shops in the historic centre of Florence and artisanal boutiques in charming villages, the region is home to three of Italy’s most important outlet villages, capable of satisfying vastly different needs and budgets. There’s everything from absolute luxury of international designer brands at significantly reduced prices, through major contemporary fashion and sportswear labels, to premium mid-range brands with discounts of up to 70% year-round.
The three outlets are located in strategic positions along the A1 motorway, making them easily accessible whether you’re arriving at Florence Airport or passing through Pisa. The distance between them makes it possible, if you wish, to combine a shopping day across more than one outlet. Those who prefer not to rely on shuttle services, most of which depart from Santa Maria Novella station, will find car hire in Florence the most convenient and flexible solution.

The Mall Florence, located in Leccio Reggello in the province of Florence, is the go-to outlet for those wanting to purchase items from major international fashion houses at prices lower than city boutiques. Opened in 2001, it was Italy’s first outlet to focus exclusively on the luxury segment, and remains today the most exclusive destination of its kind in the entire region. The complex sits in the heart of Upper Valdarno, nestled in Tuscany’s rolling green hills, approximately 30 kilometres from Florence with motorway exit at Incisa-Reggello on the A1.
Among the roughly 40 brands you’ll find names like Gucci, Prada, Armani, Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta, Burberry, Dolce&Gabbana, Fendi, Valentino, Tod’s and Saint Laurent, with discounts varying according to season and collection. The atmosphere is deliberately curated and understated, far removed from the crowds of large multi-storey outlets: each boutique occupies separate space and the pace of browsing is relaxed. A daily shuttle service runs from Florence’s Santa Maria Novella station, with stops at selected city-centre hotels. The outlet is open daily from 10:00 to 19:00, with extended closing during the summer months.
The Mall is particularly popular with international visitors who combine an outlet visit with a stay in Florence: tax-free shopping is available for those purchasing with tax residence outside the European Union, and staff are accustomed to working in multiple languages.

About 30 kilometres north of Florence towards Bologna, at the Barberino di Mugello exit on the A1 motorway, you’ll find Barberino Designer Outlet, run by the McArthurGlen group and Tuscany’s only outlet village from this chain. With over 130 boutiques and more than 2.7 million visitors annually, it’s the most visited of the three Tuscan outlets and the one offering the widest selection, spanning from women’s and men’s fashion to sports brands, accessories to home products.
Brands on offer include Polo Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors, Dolce&Gabbana, Furla, Pinko, Patrizia Pepe, Nike, Adidas, Hugo Boss, Boggi and The North Face, with discounts from 30% to 70% guaranteed year-round and additional promotions during sale periods. The outlet has been designed as an open-air Renaissance village, with pedestrian streets, little bridges and architecture echoing the historic centres of the surrounding Mugello. Parking is free and spacious, though on busy weekends you may need to wait a few minutes.
A shuttle service runs from Florence’s Santa Maria Novella station with multiple daily trips, making it accessible even without a car. The outlet is open daily from 10:00 to 20:00. For those wishing to explore the area further, Mugello offers its famous racing circuit, Lake Bilancino and numerous castles and Medici residences nearby, including those you can visit in Scarperia.

In the heart of Val di Chiana, on the border between the provinces of Arezzo and Siena, lies Valdichiana Village at Foiano della Chiana, accessible from the A1 and the Siena-Perugia expressway. With over 140 shops and discounts from 30% to 70%, it’s eastern Tuscany’s outlet and the reference point for visitors from central Italy, from Arezzo and the Umbrian and Lazio provinces.
The brand mix focuses on premium mid-range and sportswear: shops include Adidas, Tommy Hilfiger, Guess, Calvin Klein, Lacoste, Napapijri, Nike, Levi’s and many others, with offerings also covering home goods, perfumery and underwear. The complex is organised as an open-air village with a relaxed atmosphere and integrated services including children’s play area, dining options, free Wi-Fi and an electric vehicle charging station. Parking is free and the outlet is open daily from 10:00 to 20:00.
Valdichiana Village’s location makes it particularly appealing for those wanting to combine shopping with visits to the area’s villages: Cortona, Montepulciano and the Valdichiana landscapes are just kilometres away.
The choice between the three outlets mainly depends on what you’re after and where you’re staying. The Mall is the must-visit for those wanting to shop at the highest-end designer brands — Gucci, Prada, Valentino — with guaranteed authenticity and in a refined setting. Barberino is the most versatile choice: it offers the most shops, a wide range of price points and the most comprehensive services, ideal for a full day’s shopping even with children. Valdichiana Village is instead the most convenient option for those staying in southern Tuscany or coming from Umbria, wanting to combine shopping with visits to central Italy’s villages.
Alongside the three major outlet villages, Tuscany is home to a series of direct factory outlets — known as spacci aziendali — where you can purchase items from specific brands directly from warehouses or spaces adjacent to production facilities. The experience differs considerably from large villages: fewer services, less convenience, but often even more competitive prices and the chance to find pieces from past seasons difficult to locate elsewhere.
Tuscany’s most famous factory outlet is Prada Space, located in Levanella, Montevarchi, in the Valdarno, a few kilometres from The Mall. It sits within the Prada group’s production hub and was Tuscany’s first luxury outlet to open. The space stocks men’s and women’s collections from Prada, Miu Miu and Church’s, with discounts ranging between 30% and 50%, further increased during seasonal sales. Access is limited to approximately 100 people at a time: you receive a number at the entrance and wait your turn, ensuring an orderly, uncrowded visit. Open Monday to Friday 10:30-19:30, Saturday 9:30-19:30 and Sunday 10:30-18:30. Reachable by car from the Valdarno exit on the A1, or by train to Montevarchi station.
