Tuscany offers over 600 kilometres of coastline, and with it comes a variety of beachfront hotels that you’ll struggle to find in other Italian regions: from luxury resorts with pools overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea to family-run guesthouses with gulf views, from Versilia’s boutique hotels to farmhouses with direct beach access in wild Maremma.
The most renowned stretch for beachfront stays is Versilia, where Forte dei Marmi and Viareggio concentrate some of Tuscany’s most elegant coastal properties, with historic hotels and beachfront resorts complete with spas. Those after a more intimate and natural atmosphere head instead to the Costa degli Etruschi, where hotels and residences are often tucked within pine groves just steps from the water, with Blue Flag beaches at Castagneto and Bibbona nearby.
Further south, Maremma grossetana offers particularly appealing options: Follonica, Castiglione della Pescaia and the Argentario peninsula host beachfront hotels in Tuscany with panoramic terraces overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, often paired with wellness centres and seafood restaurants. For those wanting the sea all around them, Elba Island is the answer, with numerous hotels facing directly onto some of Tuscany’s finest coves.
Wherever you’re headed, booking in advance is essential: beachfront hotels in Tuscany in July and August weeks fill up rapidly, particularly properties with direct beach access. Check out our guide to where to stay in Tuscany to find the perfect accommodation for your needs.

Tuscany’s coastline is long and varied, and choosing the right area very much depends on the kind of holiday you have in mind. Not all sea-view hotels in Tuscany are alike: the atmosphere differs, the amenities differ, the landscape differs. Working out which area suits your needs best helps you avoid disappointment and make the most of your stay.
For families with children, Costa degli Etruschi or Versilia is generally the best choice: both offer equipped beaches with shallow, shelving seabeds, beach clubs with facilities for the little ones and a good concentration of properties with pools and entertainment. Follonica is another destination much loved by families, boasting a convenient and safe seafront.
For couples seeking peace and quiet and striking landscapes, Argentario and Elba Island offer the most romantic settings: secluded coves, hotels with panoramic sea views and a more intimate atmosphere compared to the major beach resorts. Castiglione della Pescaia strikes an excellent balance between amenities and natural beauty.
For those seeking luxury, Forte dei Marmi remains Tuscany’s reference point and one of Italy’s most exclusive destinations: five-star hotels, private beach clubs, Michelin-starred restaurants and fashion boutiques within steps of the shore. On the Maremma side, some resorts at Argentario and Punta Ala offer a more understated, naturalistic kind of luxury.
Tuscany’s coast is one of Italy’s most sought-after summer destinations, and availability of beachfront hotels during the peak summer weeks runs out much faster than at other destinations. If you’re planning to stay in July or August, especially at properties with direct beach access or in the most coveted areas like Forte dei Marmi, Castiglione della Pescaia or Elba, you should book at least three or four months ahead. For August weekends, particularly those around mid-August, six months’ notice isn’t too much.
Those with more flexibility in their dates will find June and September the most economical months: beaches are less crowded, temperatures remain pleasant for swimming and hotel rates drop significantly compared to the summer peak. April, May and October are ideal if you prefer a more relaxed break, perhaps combining a beach stay with inland excursions or visits to villages along the Costa degli Etruschi. During these months many properties offer low-season rates and greater flexibility on cancellations.
